About
Selene boutique rooms is a renovation of Selene Pensione which was the first place in Ikaria to offer accommodation to travelers.
Built by a local fisherman, the rooms have stayed in the family throughout the years and were renovated into boutique - style luxury rooms by his granddaughter Theano and her husband Damon.
NOTE FROM THEANO:
My grandfather built these first-ever rooms in the town of Armenestis, and my mother Keti worked so hard to keep them active for the past 30+ years. I used to spend every summer here as a child - mingling with the French, German and Dutch backpackers who discovered the island early on. When the rooms were sold out, they’d sleep on our roof on old mattresses my grandfather would roll out. Every morning, a sea of (very happy) humanity jockeyed for a turn in the communal ‘showers.’ And every evening, my grandfather would share his fisherman’s catch of the day with them. Our guests would contribute a bottle of homemade wine they procured, a loaf of bread, or even a song in return for some fresh fish and company. Twenty or so people gathered around the makeshift communal table my grandfather would fashion from planks of wood, interspersed between generations of Hrousis, eating, drinking, sharing stories in varied languages with the requisite hand gestures for emphasis. These are my earliest and happiest childhood memories. And my goal was to one day come back here with my own family and continue in the traditions of this little corner of paradise. We hope we can help our guests today have the same feelings of welcome, inclusion and hospitality my grandparents engendered all those years ago. All are welcome to enjoy this truly special and spectacular part of Greece. Have a great summer!
